NUS College is the honours college of the National University of Singapore. Our focus is a rigorous and stimulating interdisciplinary education designed to help students cultivate the necessary skills to work effectively across boundaries, so that they are able to respond to the challenges of the 21st century – the kinds of problems no one person can solve alone. We complement this with a suite of groundbreaking experiential programmes and an incredibly rich residential life, to give our students a holistic education that goes beyond the classroom. This is the place for those eager to learn, willing to be stretched, and excited to make a difference in ways big and small.
Here, you won’t just leave with new knowledge, but a new way of thinking, a supporting community, and the confidence to effect change.
“Our programme will give you broad, interdisciplinary competencies that equip you for life, along with the opportunity to dive deep into areas in which you are passionate.”
Simon Chesterman
Dean, NUS College
At NUS College, we aim to break open the classroom. Here, education is not just about what you learn, but who you become.
To break open the classroom:
A community of engaged learners connecting across boundaries, stretching one another to act courageously, for the world.
We are open for learning.
We value diversity.
We put others first.
We practise generosity.
NUS College has its foundations in two distinctive programmes. The University Scholars Programme (USP), which was launched in 2001, focused on broadening knowledge beyond academic specialisation and led the way in interdisciplinary university education by balancing intellectual depth and breadth. Yale-NUS College, founded in 2011, introduced a curriculum that drew on the traditions of liberal arts and science while exposing students to diverse intellectual and cultural models around the world.
At its heart, both USP and Yale-NUS created learning environments that helped shape independent, adaptable individuals passionate about making a difference. From them came NUS College, which combines the distinctive qualities of its predecessors with a commitment to broaden access to exceptional educational experiences.
