The New College

The New College marks an exciting new chapter in interdisciplinary, broad-based education that features an innovative new common curriculum, rigorous intellectual engagement and vibrant residential living.

Formed through combining the University Scholars Programme (USP) and the Yale-NUS College (Yale-NUS), the New College (placeholder, to be officially named later) will bring together the most distinctive and successful elements of both USP and Yale-NUS.

The college will admit its first intake in Academic Year 2022/23; successful applicants will be admitted directly to the New College and will also belong to a home school or faculty where they will pursue their primary major and earn their undergraduate degree.

Students of the New College will also enjoy the empowering flexibility of deciding on and arranging the building blocks of their undergraduate journey by reading second majors, minors and specialisations across other NUS schools or faculties.

The hallmarks of the new NUS education framework, characterised by common curriculum, flexible pathways, and interdisciplinary education, will have strong presence in the New College. Students of the New College will build their foundation in a new innovative common curriculum, drawn from the best of both the USP and Yale-NUS foundations and enhanced with STEM aspects to address the trends and needs of technological innovation and the digital economy.

Residential living will be another cornerstone of the New College experience by enabling learning, intercultural engagement and character-building beyond the walls of the classroom. Students of the New College will reside in a diverse and closely-knit collegiate community while immersing in the vibrant campus life across the university.

The New College will be known for interdisciplinary teaching and learning, with emphasis on intense intellectual debate and engagement through small group teaching and a pedagogy where students are challenged on their analysis of real-world issues, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Students will have the advantage of a progressive and invigorating learning environment where there are no silos, and faculty members encourage divergence of thinking and discovering solutions at the crossroads of different disciplines.
