IEX Vision
Join a community of change makers
Working in interdisciplinary teams, we will ask questions that include: What is social impact? How should we define and frame it? How would we go about achieving social impact and how would we assess it? How do we make sense of our experiences of social impact? How can we express the social impact in ways that will bring awareness to the issues and multiply the impact?
Together, we will consider each of these issues deeply with the aim of cultivating Creativity, Criticality, Courage, Character, Conscience – qualities that we hope will stay with our students long beyond the duration of the IEx course.
Beyond Service Learning
IEx is designed to help students RISE beyond service learning. RISE stands for Research, Innovation, Service, and Expression – the four dimensions of IEx projects – and serves as a framework for putting our critical competencies, global orientation, and relationship-building skills to good use, as we deepen and scale up social impact to tackle the most pressing issues of our time. An IEx project may highlight a dimension but should involve the other three.
Building the World Tomorrow
With every IEx project, we aim to be relevant and real, so that we can set up our students and their work for real-world success and impact beyond the confines of a traditional university course. IEx teams will be offered opportunities to connect with interested alumni of the University Scholars Programme and Yale-NUS College to multiply the social impact of their projects and sustain its value beyond graduation. The structure of the IEx programme often gives students the right environment for building a new social enterprise or civic organisation, and we would be honoured to continue offering our support to our students, as they get these off the ground.
