NUS120 University Awards: Scaling new peaks in education, research, mentorship and service

NUS paid tribute to seven outstanding educators, researchers and professionals for their contributions to the University, Singapore and the global community at the NUS University Awards 2025. The annual Awards recognise members of the NUS community who are trailblazers in their fields and have made sterling contributions to NUS, Singapore, and the global community.

From Our Community, for Our Students: Faculty and Staff Lead the Way in Giving

NUS College’s (NUSC) second Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign, From Our Community, For Our Students, concluded earlier this year. Led by nine dedicated Faculty and Staff Giving Champions, and with special help this year from the school’s mascot, Ollie the Otter, the campaign surpassed last year’s participation rate. Faculty and staff gave generously to support priority funds at the College, ensuring that an NUSC education remains accessible to deserving students regardless of financial background.

The Road to a Rhodes Scholarship

On the 4th of February, Salifian Sulaiman (History + USP / NUSC ’24) shared about his undergraduate experiences and winning the prestigious Singapore Rhodes Scholarship this year with the NUSC community. Titled “My University Experience: Perspectives from a Rhodes Scholar”, the session covered a range of topics; from managing burnout and navigating imposter syndrome to balancing extracurriculars, academic and social obligations. The session was dynamic, with eager students chiming in with questions. After the session ended, Muhammad Al Hakim (Political Sciences + NUSC ‘26) & Huiru (PPE + NUSC ’28) from the NUS College Alumni Relations Committee had the pleasure to have a (virtual) chat with Salifian.

Generous alumni from USP and friends of NUSC have stepped up to pay-it-forward towards our young institution – collectively pledging $170,000 for the NUS College (NUSC) Alumni Bursary.
